Ten wedding stationery trends for 2023 to help you set the scene for your big day…

We share our predictions for the wedding stationery trends for 2023. Your wedding stationery is often your guests’ first taste of your wedding styling. And first impressions count! So, impress them with designs that wow.

Naturally, your personality and taste will be the deciding factor when it comes to choosing your wedding stationery. But there are other influences that will impact your decision. Where you wed, the season you are tying the knot, your budget are all factors that will guide your stationery selection. Besides all of that, current trends will play a big part! Here are 10 stationery trends that we expect to see this year…

All in the detail

From silk ribbons to twine and personalised stickers to wax seals, the current trend for luxury details is here to stay. The little details make all the difference for couples wanting to make an impression. Finishing touched allow them to create a unique look with the designs they select. This year ABCD have introduced wax seals, fine threads and vellum sleeves to their collections. Along with personalised tags, ribbons, twine and foiling that we already offered. The fashion for adding finer details also plays a part in on-the-day wedding styling. From printed menus displayed at each place setting and a matching table plan. Or framed quotes designed to match the overall wedding theme dotted around the venue.

Bold brights

Rich jewel-like colours are hitting the fashion scene for 2023 and key colours will drip into bridal trends, too. Wedding details will be injected with a splash of colour. From rich red tones to warm mustard yellows and deep emerald greens. Flowers will become brighter, while cakes become bolder. Bridesmaids gowns will pop and stationery design will include saturated gemstone hues. Whether a floral stationery set, like the Alice Collection, featuring lots of bright colours or a simple design with just one or two bold colours, this trend is sure to make for cheery invites!

getting personal

Following the Covid pandemic, it has become more important than ever for couples to celebrate their love in their own unique ways. Including writing your own vows to offering personalised cocktails at your drinks reception. Personalisation will be a key wedding stationery trend for 2023. In terms of stationery, this includes choosing bespoke designs, adding a personal logo or monogram, and using your initials throughout your stationery suite.

Elegant envelopes

Once a way of easily sending stationery to the right address, envelopes are now an important part of the stationery suite in their own right. Printed envelope liners that match the invitations are hugely popular at ABCD. Along with personalised stickers to seal them! They help create an immersive experience for the person receiving the post. Decorative postage stamps and wax seals also lend themselves to elaborate envelope design.

Going green

As people try to make ethical and ‘green’ choices more and more in daily life, eco-conscious couples are looking for responsible suppliers that work sustainably for their wedding day, too. Turning to flower petal confetti and bridal gowns made from recycled plastic bottles. Couples are choosing to select suppliers that consider their environmental impact.

At ABCD, nature and our environment is our biggest source of inspiration and so we try to do all that we can to protect them. Our paper products are all FSC certified. Meaning they come from carefully managed forests. The inks we use are eco-solvent ensuring our stationery is suitable for convention recycling. All of our designs are made to order, meaning we don’t hold or throw away any unsold stock. When couples contact us they have the freedom to choose from a selection of paper stocks including recycled card. Plus we offer to supply their chosen designs digitally for them to send e-invites.

Barely there

Echoing barely-there fabrics seen in trending bridal wear, translucent stationery is set to be a wedding stationery trend for 2023. Following transparent acrylic invitations that were a trend in 2022, this year’s couples are predicted to turn to vellum. Adding a new dimension to stationery design, vellum gives a similar aesthetic as acrylic. Plus it’s kinder to the environment and will save your budget too. The vellums we use at ABCD are made from wood fibres and are fully recyclable. Printed with a design to match the rest of the stationery suite, our vellums act as a sleeve holding your invitation packs in one neat bundle.

Purple power

Pantone’s colour of the year for 2022 was Very Peri. The pretty periwinkle shade is expected to work its way into wedding details for the new year too. The colour of the year for 2023 has been announced as Digital Lavender – another purple shade. We predict to see colour schemes that include both tones. With pops of periwinkle dispersed through lavender details. A nod toward the hues with splashes of purples in your stationery designs will ensure your 2023 wedding is bang on trend.

Cutting shapes

Invitations and table numbers will be designed in varying shapes, from oval to diamond, for the next wedding season. Stepping away from traditional table numbers or menu cards gives a modern edge to the wedding styling.

Tactile surface

This year we have seen a move towards textural, natural materials, letting them take centerstage in wedding styling.  Think pampas grass bouquets, muslin napkins, bunny tails in rustic stoneware dotted along trestle tables. And this celebration of texture is set to stay. Invitations that are printed on textured card stocks can give a more luxurious finish. Texture also creates interest for those opting for a neutral colour palette. Lastly, ramp up the texture with velvet ribbons and torn paper edges for stationery that’s designed to be touched.

Font focus

Clean fonts paired with swirling calligraphy text continue to reign for the coming year. The two work together to create a modern and romantic aesthetic. In addition, cursive fonts give designs a hand-written and personal feel, while sharp lettering ensures the important parts of the invitation are easily readable and concise.

When it comes to choosing your wedding stationery the endless options can be a little unnerving – especially for the over-thinkers among us. To make the right choice for you, opt for a design that’s in keeping with your wedding theme, check that your products are manufactured ethically and post pretty papers that you would be thrilled to receive!
